A Polish interview with PIXEL magazine, Blizzard's Tom Chilton has stated that World of Warcraft currently has 10.1M subscribers and that the team is hopeful that the number will grow to 12M to rival Overwatch.
You've had your peak at around 12M players. At the end of 2015, it was 5.5M, then Blizzard stopped reporting numbers. wow powerleveling. Could you say, how many subscribers there is currently?
As we speak, there is around 10.1M. You know, it's hard to tell what the future is going to bring. We have our inner rivalry with Overwatch, but it's still possible that we'll jump over 12M again. There is a lot of potential players and there is over 100M World of Warcraft accounts created.
You can read a partial translation on the World of Warcraft Reddit site.
As PCGamesN states, this does seem slightly out of character for Blizzard since mid-2015 when the company decided to stop publishing subscriber numbers.
We'll keep you posted!
